COMPANY PROFILE

Newport Glass Works, Ltd.(NGW)   has extensive experience in the reforming of glass and ceramic materials to meet commercial, industrial and military demands. Newport has the capabilities of servicing your prototype needs as well as production quantities. A brief outline follows as to some of the areas Newport currently services. Please call us if you do not see exactly what you need. Our knowledgeable staff will be glad to discuss your requirements.

OPTICAL COMPONENTS AND MATERIAL

Newport Glass Works, Ltd.  maintains a large inventory of the most commonly used crown, flint and rare earth glasses that are listed in the reference charts in this edition. Our repressing capabilities allows us to offer blanks from tenths of an inch to parts that are over 21 inches in linear dimension and 6 inches in thickness. The major restriction on forming larger blanks is in locating glass blocks large enough to yield the parts desired. Many of the large optical blanks molded by Newport have weighed in excess of 60 pounds each.

Newport Glass Works, Ltd. molds a wide range of shapes and sizes to its customers exacting specifications. Some of those shapes are listed here:

Prisms spheres lenses
Ellipticals cylinders hemispheres
Polygons rods toroids
corner cubes cavities rings
pyramids race ways other shapes

OPTICAL MATERIAL

In addition to fabricating optical parts, Newport also sells optical material in strip and block form. All of which can be delivered according to your annealing requirements.

PYREX COMPONENTS AND MATERIAL

STOCK ITEMS

Newport Glass Works molds and maintains a large inventory of PyrexÒ discs and rolled sheets as outlined in the stock price list included in this booklet. As indicated in the price list Newport offers standard product line of telescope mirror blanks and PyrexÒ test plates from 1" in diameter to 40" in diameter. Newport also maintains an inventory of molded PyrexÒ elliptical flats starting with a minor axis of 1/2 of an inch and going to 8-1/2 of an inch.

Newport also stocks rolled Pyrex sheet stock in various thickness (refer to stock price list) in a commercial or fine annealed form.

CUSTOM PARTS

In addition, NGW has the capability of producing a wide range of shapes and sizes according to your specifications. From a few grams in weight to parts weighing 250 pounds. Request the Optical Glass Catalog for an indication of some of the configurations produced by NGW.

FILTER GLASS COMPONENTS AND MATERIAL

Newport Glass Works's inventory of colored glass filters are made from the highest quality color filter glasses produced by Schott Glass Technology, Inc., Hoya Optical Corporation, Isuzu Glass Company and Kopp Glass, Inc. (Kopp's line of color filter glasses were formerly known as Corning Glass Works's colored filter glasses). Our substantial inventory combined with our in-house fabrication and molding capabilities of filter glasses appears in our filter glass catalog together with a similar chart for cross-over filter types from one manufacturer to another.

FILTER MOLDABILITY

Some of the colored filter glasses can be molded into different configurations thus offering the users the opportunity to improve their material yields on a cost per unit basis. Whether or not your material can be remolded can be determined by calling our staff.

CRT GLASS COMPONENTS AND MATERIAL

NGW molds and maintains an extensive inventory of CRT glasses for both industrial and military display applications. A comparison chart of CRT material is available upon request.

GLASS BENDING AND SAGGING

Newport has the capabilities of bending or sagging glass (plate, optical, Pyrex, etc.) over tools conforming to the shape the user requires. Currently the maximum linear range is 40 inches in the x and y directions. However, we have the capability of fabricating much larger pieces if the need arises.

QUARTZ AND FUSED SILICA

Both quartz and fused silica material and parts are available through Newport Glass Works Ltd.

SAWING, SHAPING AND FABRICATION

All parts are annealed to the customer specifications. Annealing quality is broken into three categories: (1) commercial anneal, (2) fine anneal and (3) precision anneal.

Tempering of glass components (either heat or chemical) is available through Newport Glass Works.
