SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA

PRIMARY ROUTE(S) OF ENTRY: EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE (EO) OR FIRST AID (FA):
INHALATION: Paraffin fumes from heating. Fumes from overhead paraffin may be mildly irritating to nose, throat, and eyes. Usually not toxic. Remove to fresh air. Call a doctor.
INGESTION: Accidental Usually not orally toxic. Call a doctor

No specific procedure required.

SKIN: (1)Not a primary skin irritant.

Melted paraffin wax can cause thermal burns.

 

  1. Wash with soap and water. Call a doctor if irritation continues.
  2. Burns-flush with clean cool water on burn area and contact doctor immediately. Do not try to remove wax on 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
EYE: Not usually an eye irritate in solidify form. Fumes contact.

 

Flush eye with water if it is irritated and call a doctor

SECTION VI - SPILL, LEAK & DISPOSAL

  3. Allow hot wax to cool and than scrap up material and place in a disposable container.

SECTION VII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

  1. Parental guidance and supervision is mandatory if material is going to be melted or used. ***Children could be severely burned ***.
  2. Warning: Incorrect heating of this material could result in a fire.
  3. Fire extinguisher: A dry chemical fire extinguisher should be available if material is heated.
  4. If heated: a well ventilated area should be used.
  5. Always melt by heating in a pan over boiling water as in a double boiler. Never melt in a pan over fire, hot plate or in a hot oven. Do not heat with open flames or open electrical coils. Accepted heat sources are heat transfer fluids (steam, hot water, oil, etc.) or sealed electrical resistant heaters. Do not heat above the flash point. Wax can catch on fire if overheated.

SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS & COMMENTS

  1. Keep away from & open flame. Always melt by heating in a pan over boiling water as in a double boiler. Wax can catch on fire if overheated. See line #5, Section VII
  2. Store in a cool dry place.
  3. Keep material out of reach of children.
  4. Have a CO2 or dry chemical fire extinguisher available in the area in case of fire.
  5. Parental guidance and supervision required, especially, if material is being heated to soften it for blending with other material or for a particular application. ***Children could be burned***
