Thin Pyrex mirror blanks are similar in size to the mirror blanks used by the large domestic manufacturers of commercial telescopes. In an effort to reduce the weight and cost of the blanks used, the manufacturers have not followed the historical rule-of-thumb that a diameter to thickness ratio should be 6:1. Instead, they have determined that they can maintain the quality of their products by reducing the ratio to between 8:1 to 10:1 depending on the blanks diameter size and the design of the mounting cell. They have given more attention to reducing the risk of flexure (which cause image distortion) by redesigning their mirror cells.
The thin mirrors provided above are molded blanks that are fine annealed and have been ground flat on one surface.
CUSTOM THIN BLANKS
Other thin mirror blanks can be made to the fabricators specifications. Please submit a drawing with the dimensional specifications to facilitate our quotation process.
